Kate on the Case: The Headline Hoax

This is the third instalment of a wonderful chapter book series from Hannah Peck featuring our two favourite intrepid reporters, Kate and Rupert.

This time sees them investigating the mysterious goings on at The Lookout Post, where her ONE TRUE IDOL, Catherine Rodriguez grabs all her scoops.

The newspaper is being sabotaged and the owner ask Kate to come in and find out what is happening and who is doing it.

As usual we follow Kate and Rupert (ably ignored by Dad once more who is learning about welding somewhere in the bowels of the building) through lots of twists and turns whilst following some red herrings and bananas.

Fun and full of wonderful illustrations Hannah brings us another beautifully written and drawn story where she examines friendship, jealousy, and understanding, great for everyone to read but firmly aimed at younger readers.

I received this from NetGalley for an honest review.

Kate on the Case: The Call of the Silver Wibbler

I was given the first in the series out of the blue by the publisher and I liked it so much that when I found out there was a second coming out I had to ask for a copy to read and review.

And I wasn’t disappointed.

The Call of the Silver Wibbler is as fun and fast-paced as the first book in the series, and Hannah’s illustrations still compliment the story wonderfully and are full of energy and humour.

In this story Kate has been asked to write a review for The Lookout Post by her hero, Catherine Rodríguez, but there just seems to be way too much SHRIMP! but her dad does seem in his element and enjoying himself.

She want’s something exciting to happen, as does Rupert, anything but more shrimp…

As it happens she gets caught up in the search for the most elusive bird, The Silver Wibbler, makes new friends, foils dastardly plots, and follows her true reporters instincts.

I loved this book, another beautiful little book from Hannah Peck, and I’m leaves me wanting to read more from Hannah and Kate.

Kate on the Case

One thing about coming back to work after being on furlough was the amount of books waiting for me to read and review them, in some ways exciting and some ways daunting.

This is one of the first from that pile of books that I saw and wanted to read, ‘Kate on the Case’ by Hannah Peck.

I loved the idea of a young investigating journalist, all set up to solve mysteries and write their stories along with her trusty companion, Rupert the mouse.

I’m really happy to report that I wasn’t disappointed, a well written adventure sees Kate start her journalistic career and earn her stripes…

As things start going missing it is up to Kate and Rupert to discover what is going on and when they do there is a wonderful tail to tell…

The writing is wonderfully supported with cracking illustrations also by Hannah Peck.

I’m sure we will be seeing more of this investigative duo in the future.
