Felicia Day, Rowan MacColl. Simon & Schuster (208p) ISBN: 9781398547049. Graphic Novel, read 29/03/26, Paperback ★★★★☆
I love Greek Myths, I love feminist retelling of myths, and I absolutely love Felicia Day! So this was a must have as soon as I saw it.
This is the adventures of the youngest daughter of Tyndareus and Leda, Philonoe, the only mention of whom is that Artemis made her immortal.
Felicia Day, along with the wonderful illustrations from Rowan MacColl, takes this minimal information and runs full-tilt with it.
Philonoe is double cursed with a birthmark on her face and her father didn’t call for Aphrodite’s blessing when he called the other gods.
We follow Philonoe as she embarks on a quest from Aphrodite to lift the curse she laid on the daughters of Tyndareus to cheat on their husbands, but later we find out that is not the correct curse…
Artemis is constantly around getting embroiled in the quests and Philonoe’s growth as a person.
A wonderfully illustrated and beautifully embroidered tale of personal growth, male=dominated societies, independence, and love.
It always comes down to love…
