Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle

Another note from my iPhone.

I was in Edinburgh for the weekend working, and this was be the first time I’ve been alone in Edinburgh for coming on 30 years.

I did the tourist walk; along the West End, up Lothian Road, through the Meadows down South Bridges, the Royal Mile up to the Castle and then back to the hotel.

Strange emotions, strange seeing the place again after so many years of popping up for family visits without really visiting the city.

The walk gave me ideas for another series of photographs, but these are Edinburgh centric and will take a while to compose and collect.

‘Sins of the Father’ first two notes are places I saw my dad coming out of:

the Western Bar has been there forever and doesn’t seem to have changed much, but the Bingo Hall used to be Edinburgh’s ‘adult’ cinema.

This is a start and how much of this I go into is still to be decided.

untitled (barriers)

Went for a walk around Edinburgh Botanical Gardens a few winters back and was caught by how many plants were trying to press through the glass of the hothouses, I don’t think I’ve really noticed that before.

It was cold and wet out, yet these hothouse plants didn’t want to be confined and wanted to grow as they would even though if they got out they would die.

This is a working title while I explore this further.

Questions for Publishers

The ‘Publisher Profile’ feature is kicking off once again, there are already a few publishers who were part of this earlier and I’ll be updating and expanding their info first.

Each post will have contact information, some blurb, images, contact details, website, etc. I’ll be using public information for this, but if you want to be part of this you can get ahead of the crowd by answering the following questions:

* When did you start publishing?
* What made you want to start an independent publisher?
* What genres do you specialise in?
* Where are you based?
* Do you have a submission window, if so when?
* What is your submission procedure?
* Who are you (team photo if possible)?
* What was your background in the book industry before this venture?
* Talk about some of your books if possible, upcoming, favourite?
* Some photos, please
* Website/Facebook/Instagram/Twitter and any other contact details please

Then each publisher on the list will have an expanded entry to make the list more searchable.

Slow Blogging

Slow Blogging

Slow Blogging

I was again starting to plan out an aggressive timetable of blog and social media posts to help me become a ‘successful’ blogger with a ‘successful’ blog. Filling all the metrics of hits, likes and client interactions.

These are the things the Internet and ‘people’ tell you are required to be a good and successful blogger.

I then suddenly realised that the only person I’m really blogging for is myself, and if others like or get some pleasure/use from what I wrote or post that is a wonderful bonus.

Even though there has been at least one post a day for most of the last couple of months on one platform or another, I don’t expect to make a daily post, they will come when I have something to say or show, and hopefully will be all the better for it.

I have a lot of content and reviews to put on the blog but there may also be times when RealLife™ intrudes as I have to work a lot of hours to make ends meet.

I’m consolidating my blogs, going back to blogging for fun and slowing down. Hopefully this will have me reading for fun again as well.
